About UsWaterford Stud is a mixed operation Horse and Cattle Stud situated across 1000 acres of prime South West pasture in the Peel Region of Western Australia. It is run by Billeagh Marcus and Peter Thomas who, combined, have over 70 years horse experience.
The name 'Waterford' and the horse-head logo of the iconic stallion, Northern Griffin, date back nearly three decades when, in 1991, Peter purchased the holsteiner as a weanling colt. "Griffin" as he was affectionately known, lived out his golden years, enjoying his retirement, at Waterford until he died peacefully of old age in 2022. Back to 1992, feeling drawn to return to the region where he grew up and where his family farm, Langford Hill, was established, Peter purchased a picturesque property in the Waroona hills. With an abundance of natural springs and creeks running through the length of the 200 acre property, a short way from Hillawaters, he befittingly named it Waterford. In 2006, a second property was purchased in Coolup and eventually a third in 2023. Peter established a fully equipped thoroughbred stud and agistment facility on 600 acres of prime acricultural land, which he ran, with Susan Goodwin at the helm, until Susan retired in 2014. In 2015, Billeagh and Peter moved to the farm full time and have gradually built upon the business together. Billeagh setup an Artificial Breeding Centre for Standardbreds and continues to run the property as a breeding and spelling facility, alongside the productive beef cattle operation. In 2017, with a passion for breeding strong female lines with excellent temperament, they embarked on a journey to improve the cattle herd and expand the property. They breed quality Red and Black Angus on a commercial and stud basis. To enquire about their bloodstock, please contact Billeagh. In their spare time Billeagh & Peter enjoy playing Polocrosse, appreciating fine wines, and improving the properties. When they are not on the farm or the polocrosse field, you will find them travelling Australia learning more about regenerative agriculture or improving herd genetics. |
